The South Korea NFT/Blockchain Game Conference hosted by the South Korea Game Media Association opened on the 23rd at the Creative Economy Innovation Center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi. During the keynote speech, Wemade CEO Jang Hyun-guk emphasized that games are the core of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency.
CEO Jang said, “The answer to the problem that cryptocurrency has to solve will come from the game. “Cryptocurrency will blossom in connection with the economic system of the game,” he said. He continued, "In the future, the economic system of the game will have economic value in reality."
CEO Jang is regarded as a pioneer of blockchain games in South Korea. Wemade started combining games and blockchain technology in 2018. In that way, the blockchain game platform Wemix was born, and ‘Mir 4’ was a huge success from that foundation. However, CEO Jang did not have confidence in blockchain technology and NFT from the beginning of the project. He had doubts about the uncertainty and intrinsic value of cryptocurrencies.
However, CEO Jang became confident about the future of cryptocurrencies and blockchain games as he heard various opinions. “I thought about the value of different currencies,” he said. In the meantime, he thought about cryptocurrency again. I also agreed with the opinion that if there is a place to use it, there will be value.” “The material that makes the game more enjoyable is blockchain technology. The game will become more fun, and a virtuous cycle structure will be completed in which more users and profits are generated.”
He continued, “The ‘inter-game economy’, in which several games share a single economic system, will expand the boundaries of games. This is the metaverse that Wemade thinks.” “Blockchain games are now in the beginning stage. I think Wemade, which is considered the most advanced, only went to 1%.”
