Wemade offers a wide range of blockchain-related services, including its flagship virtual asset WEMIX, the innovative blockchain gaming platform WEMIX PLAY, and other services such as WEMIX.Fi, NILE, and Wepublic.
Wemade is actively working to popularize blockchain, with one of its strategies focused on sports. The plan is to enhance accessibility by offering blockchain-based experiences, such as play-to-earn gaming and NFT collectibles, through sports that appeal to people of all ages.
Among the sports Wemade is making significant investments in, golf stands out. Two years ago, when a KLPGA regular tour event almost got canceled due to a lack of a main sponsor, Wemade stepped in as a savior and has continued to invest substantially in golf ever since.
Since 2023, Wemade, in collaboration with SBS Golf, has introduced and operated the Race to WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP system in the KLPGA. Players earn points based on their performance in KLPGA tour events. After the season, prize money is awarded based on the cumulative points ranking.
The total prize pool is 500,000 WEMIX, distributed according to rankings. The prize amounts vary depending on the value of the WEMIX received. Most notably, the top 24 players earn the right to compete in the WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP.
The WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP is a tournament to determine the best player of the KLPGA season, operating as a Web3 golf event where blockchain technology is applied to everything from event management to spectator experience. In the WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP 2023, held last year, admission tickets were issued as NFTs, making them tamper-proof. Fans could also connect to a dedicated online community to access real-time tournament information and exclusive content, adding a unique layer of enjoyment through real-time interactions with other fans.
This year, Wemade simplified the WEMIX points system, focusing on better identifying and rewarding players who consistently perform well throughout the season. The revamped system was implemented starting with the season-opening Hana Financial Group Singapore Women's Open in March.
The upcoming WEMIX CHAMPIONSHIP will be held on November 16 at the Haeundae Beach Golf & Resort in Busan, aiming to grow into a prestigious event that marks the grand finale of the KLPGA regular tour season.
In addition to tournaments, Wemade is preparing a mobile golf game. Twohands Games, founded by CEO Kim Jun-young, is developing Golf Super Crew, a casual mobile golf game. The game, incorporating blockchain technology, is scheduled for a global launch in 170 countries later this year.
Twohands Games was founded by Kim Jun-young, the founder of Ntreev Soft, the developer of the popular casual golf game PangYa. Golf Super Crew is currently being developed by the core members who originally worked on PangYa.
Golf Super Crew will feature various modes, including the Super League, a real-time golf battle where 20 players compete simultaneously without waiting for turns; Crew Made Open, a user-created golf tournament; and Swing Chat, a simple 1-on-1 mode where players can casually play while chatting with friends.
Wemade has also expanded into tennis by hosting the amateur tennis tournament WEMIX OPEN 2024. This event is a nationwide competition for amateur tennis enthusiasts. With a total prize pool of 50,000 WEMIX, the event is themed under the slogan “The Beginning of a Rally Toward a Better World,” attracting approximately 2,800 participants across 1,460 teams.
The WEMIX OPEN 2024 began with regional qualifiers in the Chungcheong Province in June and will hold preliminary rounds in eight regions over four months. The regional winners will gather at the Jangchung Tennis Court in Seoul in October for the final round. The prize money will be distributed based on rankings in various categories, including men's and women's doubles, singles, mixed doubles, and team events.
One of the key features of this tournament is that it is part of a new sports project presented through Wemade’s blockchain-based social platform, Wepublic. Everything from participant registration to the competition process is handled via Wepublic, ensuring transparency and fairness.
Additionally, winners of the tournament will receive sponsorship funds equal to their prize money, which they can choose to donate to social contribution projects within Wepublic. This initiative provides participants with an opportunity to give back to society directly.
Wemade is also making moves in baseball. Last year, it released Fantastic Baseball, a mobile real baseball game developed by Round 1 Studio. The game features players from global leagues such as KBO, MLB, and CPBL in a unified international league.
Since its launch earlier this year, the game has been promoted through various events at baseball stadiums, offering game item coupons, convenience store discount coupons, sports towels, fans, and paper cheering sticks as prizes. Given that the game was originally developed as a blockchain-based game, there is a strong possibility that the system will be expanded for global service.
Wemade plans to continuously expand its activities across various sports to provide innovative blockchain-based experiences.
