KRAFTON is expected to report strong performance in the second quarter, continuing its impressive first-quarter results.
In Q1, KRAFTON achieved record-breaking sales of 665.9 billion KRW, an operating profit of 310.5 billion KRW, and a net profit of 348.6 billion KRW. This marked the highest quarterly record, with an 89% increase in operating profit compared to the previous quarter.
The success was largely driven by the strength of the "PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS" IP. "BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE" significantly contributed to these results, especially in markets like India. Additionally, updates to the PC and console platforms led to the highest monthly active users and revenue since the game transitioned to a free-to-play model.
This positive trend is expected to continue into Q2. Although no new titles were released in Q1, the sustained success of the "PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS" IP remains a key factor.
Both "PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS" and "BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE" have seen increased engagement and revenue due to updates like the addition of the Erangel Classic map and collaborations with the hypercar brand SCC North America, popular anime IPs "Dragon Ball Super" and "Spy x Family," and the idol group NewJeans. Additionally, "BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA" is performing steadily in the Indian market.
While the first half of the year was dominated by the success of the "PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS" IP, the second half will see the introduction of new games. Key titles include the extraction RPG "Dark and Darker Mobile" and the life simulation game "inZOI."
"Dark and Darker Mobile" is the closest to launch, having conducted a beta test in Korea with over 50,000 participants in April. A global test will be held from August 1 in major markets such as Korea, the US, Japan, and Turkey.
"inZOI" offers players the chance to create and shape life in various forms, assuming the role of a deity. The game received positive feedback at G-Star 2023 last year.
Both games will be showcased at gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany, from August 21, where international players can experience them firsthand. KRAFTON aims to launch these games globally by the end of the year.
KRAFTON's collaboration with Samsung is noteworthy. At Samsung's "Galaxy Unpacked 2024" event on July 10, "Dark and Darker Mobile" was prominently featured alongside the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 smartphones.
Additionally, "Dark and Darker Mobile" is available for hands-on experience on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 at Galaxy Experience Space locations in seven cities worldwide, allowing consumers to try the game firsthand.
"inZOI" will showcase next-generation OLED products in partnership with Samsung Display, featuring groundbreaking displays such as circular screens, foldable screens, and expandable displays that offer a larger viewing area. These innovative devices will be on display at the "inZOI" booth at gamescom 2024.
KRAFTON continues to expand the influence of the "PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS" IP with collaborations such as one with Lamborghini and the reintroduction of the Fantasy Battle Royale mode. A large pop-up store, "PUBG Seongsu," will open on August 1 to promote the brand further.
Furthermore, by being selected for the Esports World Cup, which runs until August 25, "PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS" and "BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE" have become the only Korean game IP to be featured in the competition. KRAFTON aims to solidify the IP's position by consistently hosting international esports tournaments.
KRAFTON aims to achieve an annual revenue of 2 trillion KRW for the first time since its founding. With an estimated first-half revenue of approximately 1.2 trillion KRW, the company is confident in reaching its goal, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
