With its service from Kakao Games, “Odin: Valhalla Rising” (hereinafter referred to as “Odin”), has returned to the top of the revenue rankings thanks to its latest update.
Developed by Lionheart Studio, a key subsidiary, “Odin” is an MMORPG based on Norse mythology, offering a fantasy world with elaborate high-quality graphics and diverse content founded on a seamless open world.
Since its launch in 2021, it has performed well both domestically and internationally. In the game’s initial year, it won four categories at the Korea Game Awards, including the grand prize, and is scheduled for release in North America and Europe in the latter half of this year.
Although it is three years after its release, “Odin” has continued to maintain a top position in the revenue rankings. Until recently, it fluctuated between fourth and tenth place. However, following a major update on June 26 to celebrate its third anniversary, the rankings began to climb.
This massive update introduced a new job change class for the “Sorceress,” called the “Enchantress.” It is a magic-type class that uses light and dark magic to control and suppress multiple enemies. Certain skills charge “daylight” or “moonlight,” and upon reaching a specific level, they can activate a “solar eclipse” or “lunar eclipse” state to unleash powerful magical combat effects.
Additionally, new inter-server battlefield content called the “Hell Citadel” allows players to encounter strong opponents from other servers 24/7. New features also include a server called “Aegir,” a higher tier than mythical weapons called “Ancient,” and a collaboration with the TV anime “Berserk.”
In response to these updates, players have actively engaged with the content. As a result, “Odin” climbed to second place in the Google Play Store revenue rankings in Korea from June 30 and has maintained that position until July 2. In the Apple App Store, it reached first place the day after the update, dropped to third place on July 1, and then rose to second place again on July 2.
This update has been successful in solidifying “Odin's” position in the market as a long-term service game. As Kakao Games prepares to launch new titles in the second half of the year, “Odin” is expected to provide significant support for the company's performance.
