KRAFTON has apologized for a misrepresentation of items in the battle royale game “PUBG: Battlegrounds” that could be acquired by chance.
On April 11th, through the official “Battlegrounds” community, KRAFTON acknowledged that there had been an error in the list of items available for acquisition, which was part of an item information notice posted on March 22nd.
In “Battlegrounds,” there are items that can be crafted through the workshop's crafting system, which range from Basic to Special across a total of seven grades.
However, a total of 31 items across four grades – Basic, Elite, Epic, and Rare – were incorrectly included in the notice as obtainable through the crafting system, when they are not. KRAFTON realized this error at around 15:00 on April 8th and immediately corrected the information. As a result, the total number of items per grade decreased, and the chances of obtaining the remaining items increased.
The reason for the incorrect notice was due to a misconfiguration in the process of extracting data for the disclosure of the item information, which led to the inclusion of 31 non-craftable items in the extracted data.
KRAFTON apologized, stating that, “In light of the sensitive issue of transparent disclosure of random reward items in the gaming industry, we are sincerely sorry for any confusion caused by the incorrect information we provided.” As a result, they are planning to offer compensation.
The recipients of the compensation are clearly defined, with all users across platforms who used the crafting system in the workshop between March 22nd, when the item information notice was released, and April 9th being targeted. This is because while the in-game data was correct, the information provided in the notice was not.
The affected users will be re-credited with the imprints they used for crafting during this period. In addition, the items obtained through crafting during this time will not be retrieved. Moreover, three archivist chest bundles will be awarded.
Lastly, KRAFTON announced, “In the future, to ensure that accurate data is disclosed across all channels, we will establish a process that involves cross-checking by at least two teams, right up until the final publication. Additionally, we are developing a system that will automatically disclose the game odds and item lists, to prevent such an error from recurring. We will make every effort to thoroughly review all our announcements and avoid repeating the same mistakes, in order to regain trust.”
