'Summoners War: Chronicles'('Chronicles') was released on the 9th in Asia, Europe and South America. ‘Chronicles’ reached number one in sales in Thailand and France, and is gaining popularity evenly in major countries around the world. GAMEVU conducted an interview with Sang-min Kim, CEO of Com2us Southeast Asia, after the global release of ‘Chronicles’.
CEO Kim Sang-min said, “The global version of ‘Chronicles’ achieved cumulative sales of 10 billion won within a week of its release. Our goal is to raise sales of 100 billion won by 2023,” he said. “It is particularly popular in Thailand. It reached the top of sales in both the Apple App Store and the PC platform Steam. Com2uS will do its best to make ‘Chronicles’ a long-loved game in Southeast Asia.”

Q. First of all, congratulations on the success of the global version of ‘Chronicles’. How successful has ‘Chronicles’ been in Southeast Asia? And What is the main reason for 'Chronicles' succeeding in Southeast Asia?
A. ‘Chronicles’ ranked #1 in popularity in mobile markets in Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan. It also ranked in the top 10 in sales rankings and ranked first in sales in the RPG genre. In particular, in Thailand, it ranked first in sales in both the Apple App Store and the global PC platform Steam.
I think the reason for the success of 'Chronicles' is the popularity of 'Summoners War' and strong local marketing. And I think the unique game characteristics of 'Chronicles' resonated well with the region.
Q. Aside from sales, are there any scenes or atmospheres where you can actually feel the popularity of ‘Chronicles’ among local gamers?
A. Game influencers who had been involved in 'Summoners War'-related activities recommended 'Chronicles' to local users even before 'Chronicles' was released. Looking at this, I could see that the 'Summoners War' IP is very popular in the local area.
Q. Were there any contents or marketing activities prepared separately for Southeast Asia?
A. First of all, in Southeast Asia, we focused on marketing in Thailand. A total of three people, including an entertainer, a game influencer, and an idol singer, who are highly recognized in Thailand, were selected as the main promotional models, and a strategy to cover a wide range of users was unfolded. Also, in Thailand, a press conference was held last February at the Grand Hall of the largest shopping mall in Bangkok. We had time to appeal the advantages of ‘Chronicle’ as much as possible by inviting various influencers and users as well as leading local media, and actively used it for publicity. In addition, in other Asian regions such as the Philippines and Indonesia, game-related information was provided through media outlets and official forums, and influencer live streaming broadcasts continued to inform the game.
Q. Which region in Southeast Asia is showing the hottest response?
A. The most positive response is coming from Thailand, where marketing activities were concentrated. It continues to rank #1 in Thai App Store and Steam sales. In Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore, many users are enjoying the game, and overall sales are evenly generated.
Q. What is the most popular content among users in Southeast Asia?
A. Users in Southeast Asia highly appreciate the 'originality' of 'Chronicle'. It is evaluated that the fun of battle and the fun of collecting and nurturing characters are properly mixed. Thanks to this, both hardcore users and casual users are enjoying content that suits their taste.
Q. In Southeast Asia, NFT and P2E games are very popular. I know that this element will be introduced in ‘Chronicle’ as well.
A. The P2O structure of 'Chronicles' is designed to fit the genre of RPG and the characteristics of the game. We plan to allow users to own the value of items and equipment obtained through gameplay such as combat, hunting, gathering, and mining. These items and equipment can be traded on the in-game exchange. Through this structure, we plan to implement the P2O structure naturally.
Q. What are your goals for 2023?
A. It achieved 10 billion KRW in global sales within a week after its release. Our goal is to hit 100 billion KRW in annual sales with 'Chronicles' in 2023. I think this goal will be quite achievable.
